ormerly homeless on the streets of Oakland, this "Chorkie" (half
Chihuahua, half Yorkie) now spends her days in the peaceful, gar-
den-like setting of Pastures of Heaven Pet Memorial Park with owners
Gene Rodatos and Amanda Serradell. "We call her the ambassador,"
Serradell says. "She's funny and sweet and acts as a grief counselor to
our clients." In between, she hangs out with Rodatos and "does a lot
of sunbathing."

hen visiting Carmel, many people
stop at the Visitors Center in the
Carmel Plaza to get advice on what to do
here. Their four-legged friends also get tips
from Piper, Carmel Chamber Director of
Tourism Sandra Book's French Bulldog. "He's
usually asleep behind the counter," she says,
"unless another dog walks in. Then he wakes
up and offers advice on what to tell their
human what to do while in town." He knows
the spots that have the best treats.
"No one appreciates the very special genius
of your conversation as the dog does."
