A s cherished members of our families, we love our pets and feel a deep sense of loss when they pass away after their all- too-short lives. There have been few options for memorializing pets and that's why Gene Rodatos and his wife Amanda Serradell found- ed Pastures of Heaven on three rolling acres on Highway 68 in Monterey. The couple has transformed the property, formerly slated for commercial development, into a bucolic resting place for pets of all kinds among centuries-old live oaks and meandering gravel pathways. "There's no place like it around here," says Rodatos. Named for the John Steinbeck short story cycle about nearby Corral de Tierra, Pastures of Heaven offers a respectful way to honor and memorialize our beloved animal companions in a secure and serene setting. Burial plots are available, as is a columbarium for cremated remains. Clients will have coded access to the grounds to visit at their convenience. Rodatos and Serradell have taken great pains to honor the land, utilizing native stone, preserving the trees and other natural features resulting in a park-like atmosphere that makes a visit to a valued friend a peaceful and tranquil experience.
