Paul Minx Park Board President Morton Grove Park District mortongroveparks.com register at mortongroveparks.com | 2019 Winter 2020 Spring Activity Guide 5 Greetings! It's early November, and as I refl ect upon the last year, I am struck by what a great 2019 we have had so far. We off ered new programs and events for residents of all ages. We recorded almost 7,000 registrations. Additionally, 1,295 residents visited the fi tness center or attended a group exercise class more than 47,000 times over the fi rst 9 months of 2019. More than 4,000 residents attended numerous special events throughout the year. For 2020, staff is working diligently to continue to off er community favorites and new programs and events. One of these community favorites, Harrer Pool, has served this community well for the last 57 years. Due to its age and a recent assessment which revealed it is inadvisable to continue to make repairs to the existing pool, 2019 is the last year it will be operational in its current condition. Understanding the importance of Harrer Pool, the Board of Commissioners conducted a lengthy process, soliciting public comment throughout, to determine the best course of action for its replacement. In 2016, we conducted a state of aquatics facilities meeting. In 2017, we contracted with a vendor to assess the condition of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing of the bathhouse and pool shell. In 2018, we conducted a community-wide survey to ascertain the public's thoughts on the pool – which overwhelmingly revealed that residents want Harrer Pool to remain open – and to choose among replacement options they would like to see. Throughout this past summer and fall, we conducted fi ve town hall meetings and listening sessions to explain the options, including funding, and to solicit input from residents. The Board of Park Commissioners has sought out information to make an informed decision including listening to residents, determining cost estimates, and the tax implications of several options from the community survey. We take our responsibility to provide recreational opportunities to the community very seriously. We also understand the impact of not providing those opportunities has on the community. Until a project can be selected, we encourage residents to stay informed by visiting our website or contacting us directly at board@mgparks.com. As with all our seasonal brochures, we invite you to take time to review the many program off erings in this years' Winter/Spring brochure. For more information on the program or service, you may contact the supervisor in charge of that program or service direct. On behalf of the Morton Grove Park District Board of Park Commissioners, we wish you and your family a safe and healthy holiday season.
