Owners Trevor and Christy Cavanagh serve Certified Angus prime beef, prepared fresh daily. Trevor's day begins at 4 a.m., tending the smoker. By 11, the restaurant is open, sometimes with a line out to the street. e Second Avenue North restaurant gained a quick following through word-of-mouth advertising, says Christy. "We like to be fast and good," she says, pointing to customer service and quality food as reasons for their success. On average, Smoked serves 500 pounds of meat each day. Ribs are flavorful and juicy but not greasy. e brisket is a top seller, as is the pork belly mac and cheese, sold each Friday. Sides include coleslaw and a tangy potato salad, based on a family recipe. A selection of sauces allow you to season the meat to your liking. "We've done beer than we thought," Christy notes. "We started catering aer just four months and grew from there." ey now cater events for as many as 700 people. e business, Christy says, was Trevor's dream. "It had been a personal passion. He's always at home, smoking meat." e restaurant also allows for greater family time; Christy and Trevor run the line with their daughter, and their two sons help out aer school. Plan to arrive early and beat the crowd. Sauces and sides make the meal complete. Choose from baked beans, potato salad, two types of coleslaw, mac and cheese, and cornbread. An extensive catering menu includes the crowd-pleasing charcuterie board, featuring top-of-the-line meats, cheese, and garnishes. Running Smoked allows greater family time for Christy, Trevor, and daughter Jordan Cavanagh. Two sons also help out after school.
