SiG MT 18 hinking about buying a firearm or improving your shot? Amanda Overton can help. e Great Falls native serves Highwood Creek Outfiers in both the retail shop and as an instructor. Overton's classes fulfill requirements for Montana's Concealed Weapon Permit. She runs classes for adults and occasional classes for women only. "e program is the same," Overton says, noting that some women prefer learning from a female instructor. "it's a comfort thing," she says. She also offers individualized sessions "geared toward improving skills, correcting bad habits" that the shooter may not even recognize. Overton says, "Everyone can improve. ere's still something I learn everyday." In a half hour, some people "go from shooting all over the target to a four to five-inch group." Highwood Creek Outfiers sells a wide selection of guns and offers 35-45 firearms in "a rental fleet that includes everything, right up to a Smith and Wesson .500," a large-caliber revolver, Overton says. "Choosing a firearm is a very personal experience," she says. "You have to talk to the person, understand their needs. I want people to be happy with the purchase." She advises, "Rent from our shop before you spend money on a firearm you're not familiar with. Try it out before you purchase it." Overton shoots mainly for recreation, though plans to do a lile hunting this year as well. She also enjoys kayaking, backpacking, hiking, and camping, and even gold-panning. "I've always been a very outdoorsy person," she says. To learn more, stop by the shop on Ninth Avenue South and Second Street, Great Falls, or call 406.452.6981.
