Location, Location, Location You've heard it a thousand times in real estate: location, location, location. From an investment standpoint, market data consistently points to the importance of where you buy versus what you buy, according to the NAR. is principle holds true not just for primary residences but for vacation villas and island beach homes too. It's fairly easy to understand that choosing a lesser home in a superior location, or on a more valuable lot makes better fi nancial sense in the long run. But this can be a diffi cult decision. ink 'where' over 'what' in local real estate When comparing bedroom and bathroom count, size of the master, screened porch versus swimming pool, new fl ooring versus older oak plank or white quartz over Corian counters, keep in mind the big picture. If the view out your older windows is water or marsh, stick with it and remodel later. If miles of bicycle paths connect you to a Forest Preserve, great golf or beaches, versus offi ces or parkways, stick with it. A home is a depreciating asset. But land, especially wide sandy parcels on a world-class, top-rated island, is a fi nite resource. No one is making more of Hilton Head. is rings especially true as some of the original island homes in stunning neighborhoods begin to show their age in both our private and off - plantation areas. at same lush, natural Lowcountry character, combined with a serene sense of island life - the same vibe that attracted visionary buyers back in the early 1960's - is ever present and even stronger today. An Island Community United Where you buy trumps what you buy but what about who you live near? What about your neighbors? On Hilton Head Island, that's an easy one. In November, renowned Hilton Head Charter Captain Michael Perry, aka "Papa Bear," was in a devastating accident while he was deer hunting in Tennessee. His wife and two beautiful daughters will undoubtedly face an emotional and fi nancial journey along with Michael as he recovers. Medical bills are just the beginning. But then there's the neighbors. #PapaBearStrong Almost immediately a er the news of Michael's accident spread, there was an immeasurable outpouring of community support. A GoFundMe page was set up to help off set medical bills. e fundraiser met its goal so quickly, organizers increased the need amount. Friends, business associates, islanders and neighbors (that word again) off ered their help on all fronts possible. Fellow fi shing captains, along with the owner of Hudson's Seafood House, Andrew Carmines, also united together to help one of their own. On Sunday, December 15th, beginning at 3 PM, Carmines will close Hudson's restaurant to host a community Oyster Roast, Raffl e and Silent Auction to benefi t Michael Perry and his family. Tickets are available @ www.HiltonHeadSeafoodFestival.com. Whether you know Michael or not, all islanders, visitors, and part- time residents alike, are welcome and invited to be #PapaBearStrong.
