EDUCATION Page 12 Updated December 2019—Now More Robust & Interactive DC101: Introduction to Data Center Design Released earlier this month—our newly revised DC101: Intro- duction to Data Center Design course. Reflecting the most recent best practices in the new ANSI/BICSI 002-2019, Data Center Design and Implementation Best Practices standard, the updated course provides an overview of the data center design process, design criteria, systems, components, sustain- ability, commissioning and maintenance. Available through BICSI CONNECT, this interactive online, self-paced course offers introductory-level content on all major systems within a data center. The 11 modules include engaging interactions, rich media elements, a variety of knowledge checks and gaming activities designed to help you learn and retain knowledge of data center design best practices. Start, stop, search and manually move around the content in a way that makes sense to you. You can always pick up where you left off. WHAT WILL I LEARN IN DC101? Learn at your own pace how to: • Select the appropriate availability class based on the site requirements. • Locate a suitable site to construct a data center. • Identify best practices when building a new or updating an existing data center. • Apply sustainability concepts to a data center design. • Identify electrical and mechanical systems housed in a data center. • Describe the phases in a data center commissioning process. DC101 is ideal for anyone entering a career involving planning, implementing, operating and making critical data center decisions. The course includes a comprehensive end-of-course assessment, containing 50 questions. Upon successfully completing this course, students will earn 14 BICSI CECs. (continued on page 13) "I liked that the DC101 course included step-by-step exercises and tutorials plus an assignment at the end of the class. Unlike exercises where a student can get by simply doing as directed, these assignments showed me if I truly understood the material. This course produces real learning." -Joe Neary, RCDD, Site Superintendent, ACS, Middleton, Wisconsin, USA
