W hen you think of fashion, do you think of London, Paris, Milan, or any of the other capitals of couture? Maybe you think of fashion in terms of current trends or personal style, or maybe you think of the term "old-fashioned." It's all applicable to the wine world, which does often mix the traditional with the new, as many winemaking families pass their skills and knowledge down through the generations. For instance, Michel Chapoutier remains a superstar of the Rhône Valley, while his daughter Mathilde is now in Provence making beautiful rosé, which has exploded onto the world stage in the past decade. For another, consider Burgundy, where old standbys like Louis Latour and Olivier Leflaive continue to make remarkable wines, but we are also seeing some incredible wines coming from young producers like Aurelian Verdet (born in April 1981), who took over the reins from his father—one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in the early 1970s—and continues his practices. It is great to see this trend toward organic farming and sustainability; as far as I'm concerned, making great wine while making our world a better place is always in fashion! I invite you to read on through our newest issue of The Wine Voyager. You will find some great insights from our many wine professionals, such as Rafael Zurbano, who writes of his recent trip to Argentina and Bodegas Salentein. Michael Lampson tells us how the winery Marqués de Riscal transcends the trends in Rioja. And Erin Landsberg shares her thoughts on lovely Sardinia and her visit to Olianas Winery. These are just a few examples of how we love to highlight the renowned wine regions we represent around the world in The Wine Voyager— your Import Wine Catalog. —Raymond Sodeika Vice President, Sales Manager Import Wines American Wine & Spirits Fashion ISSUE 2 T H E W I N E V O Y A G E R WINE VOYAGER: Welcome to the
