SPORT ROCKETRY JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2020 29 the simpler and easier to master Rudder- Elevator control. In all, I decided to make the following changes to Bob Parks's beautiful Phoenix design so a beginner like me could build and fly it: 1. I preserved the general outline of the fuselage, including the critical thrust angle for the motor tube. 2. I substituted a simple slab-sided outline for the fuselage, easily cut from balsa with 1/32" sheet plywood reinforce- ment on the front half. 3. The key redesign is based on sub- stituting an all-balsa, built-up polyhedral wing with a flat-bottom airfoil, and with- out ailerons. I used the wing design of the "Midwest 2x4" glider, reinforced with spruce spars, top and bottom, and covered with Monocote™. I found the plans for the 2x4 available on the Internet for free download. 4. The control set-up of my model based on rudder and elevator ("2-channel" Minimum Diameter Retainer Tool-Free Threaded Motor Mounts » » » Quick-Change Motor Retainers, Tailcone Motor Retainers, Min-Diam Motor Retainers, Motor Adapters SS Ball Bearing Swivels, SS Recovery Hardware, 1010 & 1515 Low-Drag Rail Guides, High-Temp Epoxy 54mm to 3.9" Tailcone Retainer 75mm Flange Type Retainer 54mm Standard Retainer » phone: 858.566.2900 http://aeropack.net sales@aeropack.net Made in USA Light Triggered SONIC BEACON 105 105 dB dB MINI TRANSBEEP TRANSOLVE.COM Figure 2.
