from the editor Look Ahead, Plan Now Long-range forecasts are full of uncertainty. Some can be so uncertain as to be hardly of any help at all. The 2012 hurricane season is a good example. Early on, it was expected to be close to normal—a little below normal, even. Then what happened? Nineteen storms: one of which, Sandy, was the most devastating in recent memory. Other long-range forecasts are easier to make and are more accurate. For example, it's safe to say the year ahead will require hard work. Everyone in the storm protection industry will need to be at the top of his or her game. Storm & Security Protection magazine can help with that! This May 2 and 3 we present our first Storm EXPO: an educational seminar and product exhibition program to be held in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Led by acknowledged experts and industry leaders, the seminar program includes a CEU-accredited session covering a summary of the changes between the 2010 and 2013 Florida Building Codes. Other sessions will be held on topics business owners, retail dealers and installers will need to know to prepare for changes ahead and to build a successful business. (For details see pages 12 and 13.) Storm EXPO also features premier product exhibit booths and tabletop displays showcasing products, tools and equipment for designing, building and retrofitting safe and secure homes, commercial properties and businesses. It will be the place to be as the 2013 season gets underway. But if you just can't wait until May, start right here with the 2013 annual Directory & Resource Guide. This directory, either in print or online, is the easiest and most useful guide to suppliers to the storm protection industry—the place you will turn to time and again for the products and services you need and the companies providing them. If you know the name of the company you're looking for, just look it up in the alphabetical listing (beginning on page 14) to find a complete company profile and contact information. If you you're looking for a product, but don't know where to find it, check the product category listing (beginning on page 26) to find all the companies supplying it. Looking ahead, it's difficult to predict with much certainty what we'll need, how much we'll need or when we'll need it. It is always best to be prepared— preparation and mitigation is our business! The one-two combination of the 2013 Directory and StormEXPO certainly will be the best way to get started.
