FG (Friction Grip) – For use with any brand high-speed handpiece. RA (Right Angle) – For use with any latch-type contra angle. HP (Straight Handpiece) – For use with any straight or slow-speed handpiece. *Most commonly used High-speed scaling burs (also known as Roto-Pro or Roto Sonic burs) are sometimes used for scaling teeth. Although this was recommended at one time, they are highly discouraged today since it is very easy to damage and strip away enamel with these burs. All burs should always be used with a water spray coolant. If a bur runs dry, it will become blunt within seconds and may cause thermal damage to adjacent bone. As veterinary practitioners, you are the best advocates for your patients. With the right tools, you can improve the quality of care for your patients, giving them healthier teeth and mouths and better quality of life. Did you know? Techniques used to bur away bone and section teeth for multi-root extractions are taught in the Covetrus wet labs by Dr. Cindy Charlier, Dipl, AVDC.
