seaside Hawaiian altar built to welcome voy- agers who came from the ocean to land on ancient shores. Perhaps the ultimate place for relaxation, the Spa Grande imparts an otherworldly sense of peace and well-being while treating guests to experiences inspired by Hawaii. Expect a friend- ly gecko or two to peek in while gentle tropical breezes float through the spa terrace as you await your treatment. "Our four-star resort spa offers a wide range of culturally rich treatments that reflect a bal- ance between the traditions of the East, West and ancient Hawaii," Livit says. "Guests are treat- ed to an exclusive selection of luxury pamper- ing experiences to delight the senses and soothe the body, mind and spirit. The Spa Grande is the largest spa in Hawaii with 40 treatment rooms in a 50,000 square-foot spa." When swimming, snorkeling, tennis, golf and boogie boarding ramps up your appetite, the Grand Wailea offers seven bar and dining venues to replenish even the most ravenous adventurer. The award-winning restaurant, Humuhumunuku- nukuapua'a, is named after Hawaii's state fish, and is designed in a circular, tropical-style with grass- topped huts on stilts over shallow seawater pools. The Grand Dining Room Maui serves a breakfast buffet, along with other classics available a la carte, and provides 180-degree views of Molokini, Lanai and the West Maui Mountains. Livit explains that Bistro Molokini overlooks its namesake sunken volcanic crater offshore and is the place to go for pau hana (happy hour) drinks. Bistro works well for families, watching sports or a quick bite between time at the pool. She says the cuisine is a lighter fare with thought- ful ingredients from Hawaii and sourced locally. Favorites include the Kalua Pork Flatbread from the wood fire grill or the Fresh Island Fish Tacos. The cocktails are inspired by the tropical weath- er and made with fresh island ingredients.
