Founder Sandy Shore is once again pre-
senting her one-of-a-kind music gathering "Jazz
Weekender," a three-day Valentine's weekend
jazz festival, February 14-16 in an intimate
club-like setting at Quail Lodge & Golf Club in
Carmel Valley. The weekend features a stellar
slate of music royalty including Grammy-winning
vocalist Patti Austin, soul singer Avery*Sunshine,
sax/flute virtuoso Nelson Rangell, and world-re-
nowned pianist David Benoit.
The second Jazz Weekender again features
the best "House Band" in the world including
host Nathan East, "the busiest bassist on the
planet," along with drummer Steve Ferrone,
keyboardist Greg Phillinganes and guitarist
Michael Thomson. The artists these guys have
worked with makes up a Who's Who of pop-
ular music: Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Michael
Jackson, Stevie Wonder, George Harrison, and
on and on.
"It was great getting to know the people of
Carmel," East says. "The format was fun. There
was lots of love in that room." He's looking for-
ward to working with this year's roster. "David
Benoit and I have a lot of history," he says.
"We've co-written many songs. Patti is one of
my favorite singers and a dear friend. Although
I've just recently met Avery, I'm really looking
forward to working with her."
