for dozens of communities to begin their own art shows," Lynn
says. "Shows have come and gone, but this one always stays."
Not only has Ashby's model endured – her idea attracted
thousands, inspired more artists to launch their own shows,
and is now a beloved annual event for locals and travelers.
"It's become part of the fabric of what we do every year,"
says March in Montana show coordinator Ron Nicklas.
"In March, you go to Montana for the show – it's just what
you do!"
In fact, there is so much going on in Great Falls during
Western Art Week, visitors may find that making it to every
single show simply isn't possible. "You will easily get caught
up in conversations with artists who will share not only their
technique for their art, but the inspiration for the piece, which
will lead to you sharing a story of why you connect with the
piece," says Rebecca Engum, executive director of Great
Falls Tourism.
"There is live music, dance performances, fashion shows, live
and silent auctions, established and emerging artists,
and educational symposiums in addition to the shows,"
Engum adds. "Guest travel from all over to attend Western
Art Week, because it is an event that must be experienced
to fully appreciate."
The eclectic mix of genres and styles encompassing these
festivities make Western Art Week a can't-miss event. "You
will find original oil paintings, bronzes, photography, furniture,
hand-crafted leather goods, sculptures, jewelry, pencil
sketches, scratchboards, pastels, gun power and more!"
Mayor Kelly says. "This week is always one that creates long-
lasting memories."
