iconic western art relics available at their booth along with their own stunning creations. "The artform we do is totally unique," Cathryn explains. "We create art out of found objects and upcycled metal surfaces, many of which were once auto bodies like wagon wheels." Mitch, a metalworker, handles most of the surface preparation, such as cutting and smoothing a 1965 Ford pickup truck hood to have it fit inside two old wagon wheels, for example. That's when Cathryn jumps in with her palette and brushes, creating exquisite wildlife and landscape scenes, many of which focus on the land and people of the northeast Montana plains. Antique maps, fabrics, and old ceiling tiles are also among the plethora of upcycled surfaces Cathryn has used to create her artwork. The Jay Contway & Friends Art Show will run from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Guests will also have the option to recount their own favorite stories about Montana's Storyteller in Bronze as part of a video tribute throughout the show. "I will enjoy meeting all the people who have a story to tell about Jay," Lynn says. "His audience likes to remember how they were a part of his legacy." The show will likely be a bittersweet celebration. "I believe people will come just to gather and remember, and then they will look around and see what's new," Lynn explains. "I think we will have an upbeat show even though Jay is not with us. He is a cherished memory." portfolio • 39 Jay Contway & Friends Show Event Schedule jay contway and friends art show March 19 Show Open 9am-8pm March 20 Show Open 9am-8pm March 21 Show Open 9am-8pm Hilton Garden Inn 2520 14th Street SW www.jaycontway.com Janice Bogy SHOW: Jay Conway and Friends Show Hilton Garden Inn SCRATCHBOARD Basically self-taught, Janice is beginning to make her mark in the wildlife art world.
