The Gibson Room at the Great Falls Civic Center will be filled to the brim with wood carvings, stained glass, ceramics, jewelry, acrylics, oils, embroidery art, watercolors and more – all created by over 15 of the guild's talented local artists. "We're an eclectic group," show coordinator Steve Tilleraas says proudly. "We have very nice, affordable art." Many of the Studio 706 artists have honed their creative skills while simultaneously holding down other jobs, Telleraas says. "This show gives everybody a chance to display their art, to include the practicing and hobby artists," he explains. The guild was founded in 1997 when Bill and Barb Chigbrow purchased a residence at 706 7th Avenue South and converted it into an artists' club. Twenty-three years later, the nonprofit organization boasts over 50 members and offers a wide variety of opportunities to fellow artists, including mentoring, classes, studio privileges, and scholarship programs for high school students. The guild funds the scholarships through a garage sale each June, as well as by raffling off baskets of local goodies during Western Art Week. The prizes – all of which are donated by local area businesses – include food, haircuts, and a variety of gift cards, to name a few. "The number of scholarships we give out depends on the amount we raise during the year," Tilleraas says. Artwork created by Great Falls high school seniors applying for the scholarships will also be on display at the Studio 706 Artist Guild Show & Sale. The "Can You Find It" scavenger hunt contest will be back again this year, featuring 10 close-up architectural photographs of buildings around Great Falls. The images were all taken by Tilleraas, who is both a landscape painter and a photographer. The contest takes place only during Western Art Week, and entry forms can be located inside the Portfolio guidebook or at the Studio 706 Show. Participants must write down the exact address of each building they are able to identify. Late Saturday afternoon, a winner will be drawn from those with all the correct answers.
