32 CM 2019 | International Oscar Zamora Latin America Director Peru Latin America/ Caribbean Training Conference Miami, Florida December 1–5, 2020 Coming up O scar Zamora observed three years ago that the time is right for Latin American political leaders to turn their hearts to God and that truth has been exceedingly and abundantly realized. We, too, believed Latin America nations were ready for God's Word, but the magnitude that our efforts have been blessed by our Lord have surprised even us, and we think in terms of BHAGs (Big Hairy Audacious Goals). Since named CapMin's director for Latin America in 2017, Zamora, who lives in Peru, has helped birth ministries in five nations—Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Bra- zil and is working to establish ministries in four more Central and South America countries. And the efforts have been en- thusiastically received. In Mexico, 120 people, including 90 congressmen attended the ministry launch at the Banker's Club, called the most beautiful auditorium in Mexico City. e Brasilia, Brazil ministry was launched at a breakfast in the Noble Hall of the Chamber of Deputies and attended by 75, including five senators and several deputies. An unexpect- ed opportunity surprised us this year in Nicaragua. Zamora, Ralph Drollinger, and a CapMin contingent traveled to Nic- aragua at the invitation of President Daniel Ortega to discuss creating ministries to the president's cabinet and congress. At the president's invitation Drollinger spoke about Capitol Ministries® at a televised national event before a live crowd of an estimated one million persons while Zamora stood next to him on the stage and translated into Spanish. Work is under- way to launch the Nicaragua ministries. Under Zamora's leadership, dozens of CapMin Bible studies and Drollinger's books, Oaks in Office: Biblical Essays for Political Leaders, and Rebuilding a Nation, the Biblical Blueprint have been translated into Spanish and Portuguese. With an extensive background in ministry, vast connections throughout Latin America, and a long-time passion to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to national leaders, Zamora is well suited for his role. Also politically connected is Elizabeth, his wife and ministry partner who ran for a city council seat and once worked for two congressmen. Elizabeth is the daughter of Humberto Lay, an architect and a well-known pastor who founded the National Restoration party, a group of conser- vative evangelicals, which he chairs. "By God's grace, the time is right to take the Word of God to political leaders not only in Latin America, but, as is Cap- Min's mission, around the world," Zamora said. "Political leaders are no different from anyone else in that we all need of the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Elizabeth and I are so hon- ored to be a part of Capitol Ministries® and its mission which we know is part of God's agenda for the world today!" Cityscape of Cusco in Peru LATIN AMERICA
