36 CM 2019 | International A tower of giraffes at Arusha National Park, Tanzania. The giraffe is the national animal. Jon Cassel Africa Director AFRICA Africa Training Conference Abuja, Nigeria October 12–16, 2020 Coming up W ell-known, respected, and very connected across Af- rica aer working there for decades with e Chris- tian Broadcasting Network (CBN), Jon Cassel is well posi- tioned to help build ministries across the continent. Named Capitol Ministries® Africa Director in 2018, Cassel is responsible for overseeing recruiting and minis- try plantings in Africa's more than 50 nations and helping to organize recruiting conferences. One of CapMin's most prolific ministry planters, since he began with CapMin in 2014, Cassel has initiated and helped birth more than a doz- en ministries. He once stopped strangers at a beach in Da- kar, Senegal because he overheard them say they were from Liberia and knew we needed a ministry leader there. From that spontaneous conversation, we recruited talented and motivated Dennis Aggrey who has created a ministry to that nation's leaders. Cassel works with Raymond Koffi, direc- tor of non-English speaking countries; Obi Onwuzurumba, director of English-speaking nations; and Lionel Milongo of Congo Brazzaville who assists Cassel and also translates CapMin's Bible studies into French, a common language in Africa. One of the highlights this year was a CapMin ministry birth that Cassel helped to organize in Zambia. Launched before a gathering of 70 people including many supportive political leaders, the celebrations were broadcast live to the nation's 17 million citizens. e event was a highlight of a week-long trip that Cassel and Brian Hanson, Capitol Min- istries® International Director took to several Africa nations. e two toured the continent meeting with interested faith leaders and national political leaders and telling them about CapMin's international mission. Many more ministries are in the process of being developed from those efforts. A re- curring theme was that Africa was ready for its leaders to be taught the Word of God. Many faith leaders had already been teaching the Bible to political leaders one-on-one and want- ed to join with CapMin because they greatly appreciate our tight, narrow focus and biblical methods. Cassel and Pastor Hanson stressed that we were not in Africa to push for laws, but, through teaching the Word of God, to change hearts. Cassel believes deeply that a decision for Jesus Christ as a personal Savior is paramount for political leaders across the world and is enthusiastic to help bring that about in Africa. "I am pleased to see those across Africa who wish to join with Capitol Ministries® to see their Christian political leaders discipled and strengthened in their faith so that their coun- tries can live under righteous governance," he said.
