Melinda Johnson has been a Zoo Member for five years and enjoys visiting with husband Matthew and daughter Sophie (10). What's your favourite thing to do at the zoo as a family? Explore areas we haven't seen in a while. With the flexibility of going to all three zoos, each time there is always something new to see. Each visit is so different, which keeps it exciting. Which is your favourite animal and why? Giraffe... there is no greater animal. However, we seem to spend more time in the bird aviary as my 10-year-old is obsessed with birds. What's the best Mother's Day gift you've ever received? One year I received a map of the house and I had a treasure hunt planned out. I had to find lots of handmade gifts and at the end waiting for me was my favourite coffee. MUM'S the word To celebrate Mother's Day, we asked a couple of mums their favourite things to do at the zoo. Joanna, husband Kyle and daughter Emery (aged 2) have been members for two years. What's your favourite thing to do at the zoo as a family? We love Ranger Kids. We love that even on a wet day we can still go to the zoo and have a play in there. We often pretend we are on a mission to save some animals in the helicopter and then we give any injured animals medical treatment. Which is your favourite animal and why? My favourite animal is the meerkat. They are just so cute and playful. We love grabbing a coffee at the café and watching them play. What's the best Mother's Day gift you've ever received? Emery was born a few days before Mother's Day in 2017 and we were able to leave the hospital and take her home on my very first Mother's Day. That was easily the best Mother's Day gift I have ever been given.
