Control Processors—The Software
For systems of low to medium complexity with either
button panel or touchpanel user interfaces, control pro-
cessors can be configured using the drag-and-drop tools
already described. For more complex systems, control
processors can be directly programmed to implement
multi-state touchscreen buttons, 3D effects, animated
effects, video windows, logos, drop-down menus with
prompts, and more. There are various programming lan-
guages, such as Python, C#, and LUA, commonly used
in AV control processors. Some programming options are
open source, well supported by developers, and run on
all popular operating systems. Choose one that is also
extensible, meaning that pre-built modules can be added
to the core program to add custom capabilities. Control
processor manufacturers maintain large libraries of off-
the-shelf programming modules, allowing programmers
to customize their code quickly and easily to meet specific
control needs (Figure 5).
