BICSI offered amendments and additions to the ANSI/EIA-310-C standard. BICSI jointly published ANSI/NECA/BICSI-568 with NECA. BICSI started formal development of several independent standards within the areas of educational facilities and data centers. ANSI/NECA/BICSI-568 was revised and jointly published by BICSI and NECA. 2003 2006 2001 From that foundation, 2008 saw the beginning of a three-year period in which the BSC would become part of the larger BICSI International Standards Program. Stating with the appointment of Bob Faber, RCDD, NTS, as Chair, Stephen Banks, RCDD, as Vice Chair and Todd Taylor, RCDD, NTS, OSP, as Secretary, the BSC completed and published ANSI/BICSI-001, Information Transport Systems Design Standard for K-12 Educational Institutions in April 2009. In parallel, the 2008-09 Board strategic plan placed a focus on Standards and their growth, which is where I was afforded the opportunity to join BICSI in May of 2009. The rest, as they say, is history. By the end of 2011, the BICSI International Standards Program was worthy of its title, with 13% of the then 281 members outside of the United States. A formal subcommittee was located within the United Kingdom. The scope of work included two published independent standards with one already being revised, two jointly published standards, four new standards under devel- opment and a fifth topic defining itself. Since the start of 2012, the program has grown and continues to monitor, influence and develop. The list of accomplishments is long, given we have not only increased the current standard collection to 13, but our standards have appeared in multiple languages and become the basis of national standards in other countries. BICSI standards are thought leaders on some topics, including the use of what is now known as the modular plug terminated link (MPTL) from our work on the initial ANSI/BICSI-005. But our work is not done, as innovation, technological advance- ments and new applications are always right around the corner, needing a helping hand to connect to the rest of the network. The Standards leadership and staff are always grateful for the many BICSI volunteers who have contributed countless hours to help establish and maintain BICSI as an industry leader in ICT standards development. To get our standards in the hands of more end users, we have arranged for 2009 era pricing on several key BICSI standards, including the new ANSI/BICSI 007-2020, Information Communication Technology Design and Implementation Practices for Intelligent Buildings and Premises. We know you will appreciate the immense knowledge base of our Standards volunteers and we encourage you to explore some new BICSI standards. 'Til next time, Jeff Silveira, RITP, CAE BICSI Director of Standards STANDARDS Page 31
