The manual was first published in 1971 and was ini- tially referred to as the IPT Standard Specifications for Tablet- ing Tools, because it had been developed by the Industrial Pharmaceutical Technology (IPT) section of the APhA's Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The manual is cur- rently in its 7 th edition, which was published in 2006.
