Chris Pryor was the head golf pro at the Santa Lucia Preserve Golf Club (pictured), and is a longtime top Realtor at Carmel Realty. Photo: Kelli Uldall C hris Pryor has enjoyed successful careers in golf and real estate, and he says the same secret underpins both worlds: "Relationships." Soft-spoken, with the kindly manner of a country doctor, Pryor has a way of drawing people to him. After walking-on to the golf team at Fresno State and earning a business degree, he talked his way into a job in the Pebble Beach pro shop. Pryor moved up the ranks by being a welcoming presence to guests and a jovial playing partner with the local golfing aristocracy. In 1999, Pryor became head pro at the nascent Preserve Golf Club and later transi- tioned to GM of the Ranch Club. "Someone told me that when you leave Pebble Beach," Pryor says, "you find out who your friends really are, and who was just being nice because they wanted a tee time." He kept all of his friends, some of whom bought pricey memberships and lots at the Preserve. In 2009, Pryor became a realtor at Carmel Realty. He sold Jim Nantz his house and has catered to the golf-mad among Silicon Valley royalty, leading to four Pebble Beach sales listed north of $20 million. Says Nantz, "Chris looked after us with tre- mendous care and integrity." Then he adds a compliment that perfectly captures Pryor: "He's a friend now and forever."
