Christopher Carter is building a bright future with
carpentry skills and studies in finance, all the while
dreaming of one day owning his own farm.
Christopher, 20, is majoring in Finance at the University
of Alabama in Huntsville, where he hopes to graduate in
2022. He is also a recent graduate of the North Alabama
Home Building Academy bootcamp. e bootcamp aims
at helping to jumpstart a career in carpentry.
He is looking forward to celebrating the holidays with
his family as they take time to appreciate one another.
Q: Tell me about the bootcamp.
A: e Academy is a construction skills bootcamp filled with classroom and hands-on
training. We also get help with job searches. We earn an OSHA-10 certification, a set of
starter tools, and a Home Builder Institute basic construction certification.
Q: What is your best Christmas memory?
A: My best Christmas memory would have to be the Christmas of 2016, not long before
my family moved to Madison. ere was more snow than ever before on the grounds of
Jackson, Mississippi, and my family had a gigantic snowball fight.
Q: What one holiday family tradition would you pass on from generation to generation?
A: Great food. Not just because of the wonderful recipes that are used, but because of the
way that food brings the family together!
Q: What do you do for fun?
A: I spend most of my free time in the garden. I love to fish
and photograph nature. I also spend some time doing
handmade woodworking projects.
