As if that wasn't enough, Shauna and Terry also became the owners and operators of the Farver Farms Cookhouse, a restaurant in Scobey, in November of 2019. e local steakhouse had come up for sale and the Farvers didn't want to see the community lose an important social venue. e gathering place was important to them and the community, so they stepped up. "We were able to piece it together and make it work," Shauna said. "We use our lentils in our signature dishes and also use our beef for the burgers and tacos. Maybe not the best time to go into the restaurant business, but we are making it work." Shauna's plan has worked so far. She used to be the hired hand on the farm, helping her husband with planting, harvesting, and calving. And now she works exclusively with the value-added businesses she started. Her son-in-law is now a full-time farm employee, and her daughter, Kaitlin, works as a crop adjuster and also seasonally on the farm and at the cookhouse. Shauna also has one employee at the production facility. She hopes her son will have a place back home if he wants it aer he finishes college.
