Certificate & Degree Programs 2020-2021 Program Notes: Students must earn a grade of C or better for all courses required within the program. Students must be willing to undergo a background check performed by the MCCCD approved vendor. (Students who are unsure of their background status may take a preliminary background check at their own expense before entering the program, results of which will not be sent to the college.) Admission Criteria: 1. High school graduate or GED. 2. Formal application and admission to the program are required. 3. Ability to fully participate in classroom, laboratory, and professional practice in health care settings. 4. Applications can be obtained from the Program Director, Health Professions Advisor, Navigator, or college website. 5. Program applications will not be accepted without a copy of an Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card and successful passage of background check. Program Prerequisites: None. MEDICAL INTERPRETER - SPANISH CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCY IN MEDICAL INTERPRETER - SPANISH (200 CLOCK HOURS; CODE 1900N; 6 HOURS PER WEEK) (200 CLOCK HOURS; CODE 1902N; 12 HOURS PER WEEK) Division: Healthcare Program Manager: Jennifer Kline The Certificate of Competency in Medical Interpreter - Spanish program prepares bilingual individuals for a rewarding career in healthcare. Program participants will gain the skills necessary to become English-Spanish medical interpreters during this 200-hour program that includes a 40-hour externship. Students will learn medical terminology, body systems, legal issues, ethics, standards of practice, and cultural awareness across both languages. Emphasis is placed on practicing interpretation in the consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation modes. Upon successful completion of the program, students will have exceeded the minimum training requirements for certification and will be eligible to take national certification examinations through the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI). Program Notes: This program is not eligible for Title IV Federal Financial Aid. Externship hours are site specific and may require attendance any day of the week, including during unscheduled days and times. Admission Criteria: 1. Health and safety documents 2.
