Course Listings 2020-2021 workers. Students will learn to handle emergency situations, practice safety and security procedures, build interpersonal communication skills as well as define the roles and responsibilities of an electrocardiogram (ECG) technician. Students will learn medical terminology used in healthcare, with special care populations and in special services. Body systems approach to terms related to structures, functions, diseases, procedures and diagnostic tests. Building and analyzing terms using word parts. Medical abbreviations and symbols and term spelling. Prerequisites: None. ECG101 32 Clock Hours The Cardiovascular System: Anatomy & Physiology and Pathophysiology of Cardiovascular Disease In this course, students will explore the structure and functions of the cardiovascular system. This course covers the anatomical structures of the heart, the composition of blood, the path of the blood through the heart, and the electrical conduction system. Students will learn how these systems act as one to supply vital oxygen, nutrients and hormones to tissues and remove carbon dioxide and metabolic waste products. This course also covers pathophysiologic concepts and interventions for patients with heart and coronary vessel disease and disorders such as coronary artery disease (CAD), angina pectoris, myocardial infarction (MI), congestive heart failure (CHF), dysrhythmias, inflammatory processes and valvular heart disease. Prerequisites: ECG100. ECG102 24 Clock Hours Introduction to ECG Students will learn the fundamentals of electrocardiography. Students will be able to describe the electrophysiologic basis of cardiac arrhythmias, illustrate the electrical conduction system through the heart, and the process of recording an electrocardiogram (ECG). Students will learn how to acquire 3-lead ECG, 4-lead ECG, 12-lead ECG and interpret rhythm strips. Prerequisites: ECG101. ECG103 24 Clock Hours Applied ECG: Atrial, Junctional, Ventricular Rhythms and Heart Blocks Students will learn to recognize arrhythmias that originate within the atria, the ventricle, the AV junction, AV node as well as heart blocks. Students will identify the specific features of each arrhythmia, where it originates from and diseases associated with each. Prerequisites: ECG102. ECG104 16 Clock Hours Advanced Cardiac Life Support Designed for the allied healthcare provider who initiates, directs, or participates in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. Provides the allied healthcare provider with the knowledge and skills to recognize and manage cardiopulmonary arrest, acute arrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS) according to current advanced emergency cardiovascular care (ECC) guidelines. Requires prior knowledge of basic electrocardiograph rhythm interpretation, pharmacologic agents, and other interventions used in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS). Upon completion of this course, students will be eligible to take the American Heart Association`s (AHA`s) Basic Life Support (BLS) and ACLS certification examinations. Prerequisites: ECG103. 267
