Course Listings 2020-2021 HMC208 90 Clock Hours ICD-CM Diagnostic Coding This course introduces students to the International Classification of Diseases, Clinical Modification (ICD-CM) coding system. Topics include application of current ICD-CM guidelines and conventions for symptoms, signs, and abnormal clinical and laboratory findings, diseases, conditions, and external causes of morbidity in inpatient and outpatient settings. Prerequisites: HLC145, HMC200, or permission of Program Manager. A grade of C or better is required in all Prerequisites. HMC213 206 Clock Hours CPT and HCPCS Coding This course provides students with the foundation for using the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) coding systems. Topics include coding guidelines, healthcare reimbursement, coding technologies, ethical coding, and compliance issues. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better is required in HMC208. (HON) LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT HON201 Lecture 3 Credits 3 Periods Leadership Development: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives Interdisciplinary study of leadership focusing on development of leadership skills. Prerequisites: Admission to the college honors program or permission of Instructor. (HRC) HEALTHCARE REGULATORY COMPLIANCE HRC101 Lecture 1 Credit 1 Period Overview of Healthcare Compliance Introduction and overview of healthcare compliance; evolution of the field as a profession. Exploration of federally legislated mandates for a compliance program. Program elements. Organizational steps for implementation in specific settings. Prerequisites: None. HRC228 Lecture 3 Credits 3 Periods Healthcare Industry Regulation Comprehensive review and study of laws that regulate the healthcare delivery industry including fraud and abuse, patient privacy, Protected Health Information (PHI) and electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI), and occupational safety for workforce members, patients, and visitors. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in HRC101. 299
