DAY TRIP Rotary Canyon Loop Hikes Bear Paw Nature Trail Located on the northern end of Bear Paw Lake is the well-marked Rotary Canyon Loop trailhead. Two hiking loops are accessible from this trailhead – the 1.08-mile lower loop, and the 2.4-mile upper loop – or visitors may enjoy incorporating both loops into a "figure-eight- style" journey. Elevation changes are fairly minimal, making these hikes popular for a wide variety of ages and abilities. Another hiking option is the Bear Paw Nature Trail, which begins just off of Alkali Springs Road, a well-marked roadway located 19.8 miles south of Havre on Highway 234. e trailhead for this 5.74-mile trek is located approximately one half-mile down Alkali Springs Road. Because the trail follows the same path as an old military road established by soldiers based at Fort Assiniboine well over a century ago, astute hikers will notice several areas where depressions from their wagon wheels still remain. Check out the 20 interpretive signs along the route to learn more about the park's flora, fauna and storied history. In addition to hiking, visitors are welcome to explore the trail on horseback. Bicycling is certainly possible, but some areas of the path are heavily-rued by livestock and may make biking unpleasant. Mount Otis Trail Visitors searching for stunning 360-degree views are sure to fall in love with the 2.06-mile Mt. Otis Trail. e trailhead is located on Mooney Coulee Road, 19.9 miles south of Havre on Highway 234. Visitors will find the parking area and trailhead marker less than one mile down Mooney Coulee Road. e trail boasts a brisk ascent and several switchbacks as it rises out of the coulee to the top of Mt. Otis. Take in the breathtaking view as you relax on the park bench situated at the mountain's peak. Beaver Creek Park historic chapel. Beaver Creek Bear Paw Nature Trail sign.
