Data Center Design Consultant ™ (DCDC ® ) Outside Plant ™ (OSP ™ ) Designer Rui Takei Rui wanted to volunteer on the RCSC because he wanted to translate credentialing exams so Japanese BICSI members could take the exams in their native language. He knew he would not be able to take any of the exams he translated, so he had to take the DCDC exam in English before he could begin the translation. He studied hard and passed so he could begin volunteering. "Volunteering has helped me interact with members who are in a different segment of the ICT industry – I remember that we are all equal as BICSI members and 'If one lights a fire for others, one will brighten one's own way.' " Favorite BICSI Memory "I was very nervous at the 2015 BICSI Winter Conference awards ceremony when I was awarded the BICSI Outstanding Global Member of the Year Award. I called home to ask my wife's advice, and the guests at the ceremony were so supportive." John Bakowski John was invited to join the RCSC, in part, because as a Canadian member, he could provide a non-U.S. aspect to the RCSC work. "Volunteering for the RCSC has been one of the best career decisions I have made, which then led to a much more personal commitment to BICSI activities, commitment that I continue to carry out today." John believes volunteering provides you with an outstanding opportunity to network and grow your industry knowledge beyond your local scope. He enjoys giving back to BICSI and its members. "Working with ICT professionals and developing skills within the committee is a great reward for the volunteer hours we put in and the payback is worth every minute." Favorite BICSI Memory "Hearing my name being announced from the stage when I earned my RCDD. My second best memory was being elected as BICSI President … a great personal accomplishment that I could share with and for our membership." CREDENTIALING Page 32
