January/February/March 2021 I 63 CCTV DETAIL NOTES 1 CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION (CCTV) IP CAMERA. 2 277V LED LIGHT POLE. 3 NEMA 4X ENCLOSURE INCLUDING MEDIA CONVERTER. 4 CCTV CAMERA ARM MOUNT. 5 120V CIRCUIT FOR MEDIA CONVERTER. 6 OM3, OSP RATED, ARMORED FIBER OPTIC CABLING. 7 MEDIA CONVERTER. 8 CATEGORY 6A PATCH CABLING. 9 LAYER 2 NETWORK SWITCH. 10 CCTV NETWORK VIDEO RECORDER (NVR). The CCTV IP cameras were located throughout the facility (both in-building and outside) and had an AI algorithm running in the background. The facial recognition algorithm was installed and running on the CCTV NVR, proprietary to the manufacturer of the CCTV equipment that was used on the project. The cameras were located throughout the building in areas that had a ceiling and areas that had no ceiling (i.e., exposed to structure). In areas that had ceilings, the installation was fairly straightforward; a 4 inch octagon box was used to support the CCTV camera. The balanced twisted-pair Cat 6A cabling was installed and terminated in a direct connect fashion per the request of the CCTV integrator. In areas that did not have a ceiling, the design and installation was substantially more difficult. CCTV camera locations needed to be coordinated with the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection (MEP-FP) infra- structure to ensure that the sight lines were not obstructed by a duct, sprinkler pipe or conduit installed for power feeders. Exposed 1 inch electrical metallic tubing (EMT), 4 inch octagon boxes, and Cat 6A cabling terminated TELECOMMUNICATIONS ROOM 2-POST RELAY RACK (2) 4" CONDUITS TYPICAL EARTH LIGHT POLE in a direct connect fashion were installed to each location where a CCTV camera was required. Outdoor cameras that were mounted on poles had a significantly more challenging cabling design and installation than an exterior camera that was mounted on a building. Pole mounted cameras required outside plant (OSP) rated OM3 optical fiber cabling, media converters, NEMA enclosures, and power at the poles for the media converters. Since the pole mounted electrical light fixtures were 277V, additional electrical circuitry was needed to support the media converters, which needed to be supplied with 120V power. Category 6A cabling was installed from the media converters to each camera, and that cabling provided both power and signal capabilities (Figure 6). The design provided for a dedicated Cat 6A CCTV patch panel in the TR. Patch cabling was provided from the CCTV patch panel to a layer 2 network switch. Finally, the CCTV NVR was rack mounted and provided with a NIC that allowed the NVR to communicate with the entire network via balanced twisted-pair Cat 6A cabling.
