Because this technology consists solely of optical elements, it is totally passive (e.g., no energy consumption, no supervision) and operates at the level of the physical layer, which makes it transparent to the communication protocol and modulation format being used. Due to these features, the MPLC technology makes it possible to conserve and reuse existing MMF in the network for implementing the POL. This technology is used to modify and replace the singlemode splitter found in a standard POL architecture and makes existing MMFs compatible with singlemode OLT and singlemode ONT devices. It controls modal coupling between the existing multimode fiber infrastructure and POL singlemode fibers and devices. The replacement of the singlemode splitter in a standard POL architecture is called the modal splitter. Exposed cables easily disrupted Temporary new projector distance too great for passive HDMI cable Theoretical MMF bandwidth gain according to launching conditions (extract from IEEE 802.3aq study) Perfect center launching (Multi-Plane Light Conversion) Offset launching (Mode conditioning patchcord + Electronic Dispersion Compensation) Light launching conditions 0 MMF Bandwidth gain
