What do you do to give back to your community? For many years, our practice has maintained a rabies clinic day on Wednesdays to reach out to the community in a meaningful way. On this day, we offered discounted vaccine rates for both dogs and cats, allowing pet owners who may be struggling financially or have multiple pets in their care to afford necessary routine vaccinations. Additionally, we are eager to partner with local upstate organizations to promote safety and wellbeing. Our practice works closely with an organization whose mission is to prevent child abuse, trafficking, and child pornography with the use of electronic detection canines. We provide veterinary services to these hard- working dogs to ensure they stay healthy and active in their critical role! What is the most challenging thing about your job? Dealing with folks who are struggling financially and emotionally with the burden of sick patient care is probably the biggest challenge. Striking a balance between offering the best care but being understanding of a client who is feeling overwhelmed with big medical decisions can be extremely hard to navigate and requires empathy, patience, and careful communication. What is the most rewarding part of your job? Connecting with clients I haven't seen in a while and catching up on life with them is the most rewarding. I enjoy seeing the life stages of their beloved pets and being there for them through the highs as well as the lows. It gives perspective and reinforces the reality that veterinary medicine is a calling, not just a job! For anyone just entering the veterinary profession, what advice would you give them? This profession is not for the faint of heart! It definitely requires steadfast character and a commitment to client care as well as patient care. Although it brings so much joy in the form of puppies and kittens, the veterinary professional must love people and be keenly interested in finding out how best to meet their pets' needs while still maintaining the integrity of a high standard of care. What are you most excited for in 2021? I am excited for continued practice growth in 2021! We are looking forward to watching our staff members develop in their skill sets through additional training opportunities and to see a greater bonding of our staff to each other to create a more cohesive team. We hope to explore several new avenues for meeting clients' needs and setting our practice apart. 11 February 2021 | Product and Promotions Guide
