Many mentioned the importance of learning technologies and products, working hard, going the extra mile, and volunteering in the industry. Some advised staying up-to-date to ensure their professional development and growth, including pursuing credentials such as the RCDD ® . Other advice included attending the many webinars offered by BICSI and others. One insightful comment was, "I never want to stop growing or learning and I am always continually looking forward to what's next." Since BICSI now has a mentoring program, what qualities make a good mentor? This topic evoked many comments summed up in agreement that effective mentorship relationships take time. A mentor should focus on listening to better understand the mentee's goals and point them in the right direction. "Constant communication between the mentor and mentee is key." "It's also important to share ideas and let the mentee shine and share in their successes." Many described mentors as "… more like teachers that helped guide me through my ICT career path and also provided valuable work experience and stories – both successes and mistakes." What do you think about the virtual BICSI Fall Conference? Most preferred a face-to-face conference and the hands-on experience with new products, but some did not miss all the walking and appreciated having access to presentations for a month after the conference. They liked the chatrooms; "It provides the opportunity to allow for others to speak up who might naturally be shy in person." Another added, "It is great to still be able to get together in spite of all the worldwide challenges." For many, this was their first virtual conference. "It really is amazing how well this conference was put together. With so many COVID adjustments that haven't worked out very well, I'm grateful this conference did [work well]." What's next? Join us at the 2021 BICSI Virtual Winter Conference & Exhibition on 28 February – 4 March, and support fellow Women in BICSI member, Carrie Goetz, D.MCO, RCDD, NTS, CDCP, CDCS, CNID, Master IM, AWS CCP, PSP, Certified SCRUM Master, Principal/ CTO, StrategITcom, LLC, during a hosted live event during the conference. Support other Women in BICSI members and our entire ICT community by attending a wide array of educational sessions, all available up to 30 days after the conference! While we will have to wait a little longer for that real handshake or hug, we can support our community and engage online with each other. Can't wait to see you online!
