March 2021 / 51 WHAT'S NEW PBE Drying system efficiently dries cannabis in two stages with minimal cannabinoid loss Vibro-Bed two-stage fluid-bed dryer system can dry up to 8,000 pounds of cannabis per hour with mini- mal cannabinoid (CBD) loss. System is suited to batch or continuous drying of cannabis biomass. System uses heat as an accelerant rather than a primary driver for evaporation, burning off less CBD than alternate technologies, such as belt- and tumble-style dryers. System's fluid bed pushes air up through the biomass that's being constantly shifted via vibration, maximiz- ing exposure to air and speeding the drying process while maintaining product integrity. System also allows for the capture and return of lost trichomes to each batch. System's first-stage fluid-bed dryer uses hotter air to flash dry the cannabis biomass followed by a separator that removes stalks and stems before sending the semidry material on to the second-stage fluid-bed dryer's cooler air. System achieves 4 to 12 percent moisture in less time and using less energy than single-stage drying methods, other two-stage dry- ing methods, and other dryer types without burning or changing the material's natural color, producing a high-value resulting material for further processing.
