When the live stream ends, the recording is available immediately with a table of contents and slide thumb- nails, which are automatically created during the live stream. The recording is also indexed, allowing the video to be searched for any word spoken or displayed in a graphic. Because they offer so many value-added features, enterprise streaming platforms charge for their services. A basic setup for streaming via a public hosting or enterprise streaming platform is shown in Figure 8. Video and audio processing at the source are similar to private streaming. The content is still streamed to the internet. But streaming distribution to students is handled by the hosting service, which provides transcoding into all common video and audio formats so that virtually any device can be used to watch the streamed content in any popular web browser. Each hosting service or enterprise platform publishes best practices for live streaming and on-demand streaming. These best practices govern the formats and bit rates of content delivered to them via the internet, as well as the formats and bit rates that they deliver to users. It is important to verify that the internet connection upload speed at the encoder and the download speed at the user support the bit rates required to deliver the desired content quality. For live streaming, viewer down load speed should be 50 percent faster than the bit rates sent out from the encoder. The encoder's internet connection can be optimized since it is under the control of the content producer. However, the consumer inter- net connection is subject to speed fluctuations due to shared usage and wired versus wireless access. Internet speed tests should be performed to avoid surprises. Content producers also need to ensure that the encoder bit rate does not exceed the maximum bit rate specified by the hosting service or enterprise platform. Bit rates that exceed the maximum are downscaled by the hosting service.
