Automation There are several ways to automate AV system control. Several are shown in Figure 10. Most touch panels include motion sensing to wake-up the panel when an operator approaches and puts the panel back to sleep when no motion is detected for a set period. This feature can be configured to activate the AV system and room functions, such as turning lights on when people enter the room and turning everything off when people leave—without even touching a light switch. Ceiling- mounted and wall-mounted room occupancy sensors can do the same thing. Standalone workspace controllers A greater number of higher education institutions are setting up simple self-service studios that professors and students use to capture and stream lectures and presentations. are available that can automatically turn on the display and select the correct display input via the HDMI consumer electronics control (CEC) function when an active HDMI signal is connected. The workspace controller can also react to a relay closure from the room occupancy sensor to automatically turn everything on when a user enters the room. Connecting a wireless collaboration gateway to the workspace controller allows people to display content wirelessly from their own BYOD portable devices without touching the AV system. Control from Personal Devices and Remote Control Another touchless control option is for people to use their own personal device (e.g., mobile phone, tablet) to control the AV system and other room functions. This is done by incorporating a QR code on the system's touch panel display through a one-time setup using the touch panel's drag and drop configuration utilities. To control the system, users scan the QR code with their personal device and enter the AV control system
