Remote disinfection through IoT connections and commands for UV-C LED lighting, gas vaporizers, and air purifiers is made safer when PoE-networked systems monitor door locks and the location of humans in and around the space to be disinfected. A data audit trail proves owners are consistently taking steps to mitigate and manage communicable disease. See Figures 1 and 2. FIGURE 1: This reflected ceiling plan diagram shows one potential layout of devices to create an automated and safe disinfection tool in a senior living space. At a minimum, occupancy sensors combined with a door sensor work together to prevent the triggering of UV-C lighting whenever a person is in the room. The primary difference between the diagrams is the incorporation of additional devices, such as a presence-detection sensor that uses thermal imaging rather than motion alone to identify humans in the space.
