City Government In Great Falls, a city commission, made up of elected officials, makes policy, and a city manager handles day-to- day operations. The City Commission is made up of four commissioners who serve four-year terms and a mayor who serves a two- year term. Commissioners are elected at-large and on a nonpartisan basis. City management is divided into 10 departments which oversee everything from the parks and recreation, police, library, planning, and community development. To find out more about these departments, go to greatfallsmt.net. Citizens are encouraged to participate in city government by getting involved in one of the nine Neighborhood Councils (listed on page 80). These councils offer advisory input to the commission on all areas of government that affect their neighborhoods. Each of the councils have five members who serve two-year terms. Meeting schedules are available at greatfallsmt.net (and on page 80). The City Commission meetings are 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month in the Commission Chamber on the second floor of the Civic Center (located at 2 Park Dr S). Hours of operation are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. weekdays.
