Vehicle Registration According to the Cascade County Motor Vehicle Division, new residents are required to register vehicles locally upon getting a job. To buy license plates, visit the Cascade County Treasurer's office at 121 4th St N, call (406) 454-6860, or visit cascadecountymt.gov. Driver's License Military personnel on active duty in Montana who have a valid license issued by another state and who are not employed in Montana, except as a member of the armed forces, are not required to hold a Montana driver's license. Other individuals with out-of-state licenses must: Apply for a Montana driver's license within 60 days of moving to the state if seeking a non-commercial driver's license and within 30 days if requiring a commercial license. Be sure to schedule an appointment online at doj.mt.gov/driving/appointments/ before going to the DMV. • Provide two forms of proof of identity, including a current driver's license or a certified birth certificate. Provide proof of Montana residency, including a state income- tax return, a state voter-registration card or a receipt for state taxes paid. Go to dojmt.gov/driving/required-docs/ for more examples of residency proof. • Provide proof of citizenship, including a certified birth certificate or a passport. Some newcomers also may be required to pass written and driving tests, in addition to a vision test. To get a new driver's license, visit the Driver's License Bureau at 207 Smelter Ave NE. For more information, visit doj.mt.gov/driving. Hunting & Fishing License To legally hunt in Montana, you must hold a valid hunting license. You need to first complete the Montana hunter education certification requirements. Requirements can be found at hunter-ed.com/montana. Once you are certified, you can choose your license type. Licenses can be purchased through the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks website, fwp.mt.gov/ hunting/licenses, or a Montana-approved provider.
