Register to Vote Registering to vote is fairly easy in Montana. Registration forms can be downloaded from sos.mt.gov/elections, or can be picked up at the Driver's License Bureau, 207 Smelter Ave NE, many civic offices, or the election office at 325 2nd Ave N. Registration is permanent unless you fail to vote in a federal general election and do not respond to confirmation mailings. Then your name is placed on an inactive voter list. If you fail to vote in two federal general elections after the mailings are sent, your name will be removed from the voter rolls. Some things to know before registering: • Residents must be 18 or older to register. • In order to vote, registrants must have lived in the Montana county in which they intend to vote for at least 30 days. • Felons serving a sentence in a penal institution are not allowed to register. Late Registration Late registration is available at any time up through the close of polls on Election Day, except between noon and 5 p.m. on the day before the election. Voters must provide identification at the polls. Identification can be: • A voter registration card. • Any current photo ID such as a driver's license, or student or tribal ID. • A current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check, or other government document with your name and current address may be used. Go to sos.mt.gov/elections/vote/index.asp. Voting Absentee You must first apply for an absentee ballot.
