Construction by Dick Anderson commenced in
November 2019. To ensure structural integrity, giant
iron beams now intersect each of the four main walls.
Reaching from the roof to deep underground, these
beams are the reason behind the blue panels adorning
the library's exterior walls. A fire suppression system and
a public address system, both previously absent, now
function to protect the library's contents and patrons. A
new HVAC system completely exchanges the air every 15
minutes. Windows were added wherever possible to bring
in more natural light. Combined with the white-washed
walls, the space seems immense, even though no extra
square footage was added.

Every inch of space is utilized below the Grand Staircase.
Additional lounge seating and stroller parking can be found here.
The lobby's reclaimed local beetle kill wall features
will host a rotating art exhibit. Tables and banquettes,
tall tables, and a smattering of square tables provide
meeting places just inside the main doors.
The former genealogy room, once blocked by an iron
gate, may be your new favorite reading spot. Visit
during a winter storm and Finn says, "You'll feel like
you're in a snow globe."
The designated teen area provides ample gathering
space for homework, book clubs, and socializing!
