33 Q2 2021 | Animal Health Solutions Increase anesthesia skills in a safe environment Training begins with a half-day review of anesthesia and monitoring best practices. A veterinary technician specialist (anesthesia and analgesia) will show you how to efficiently operate and maintain your equipment for optimal performance. Hands-on exploration of the anesthesia machine and monitor sets the foundation for the remaining education modules. The second half of the day is dedicated to practical applications and clinical simulations where you will be presented with real-life scenarios involving a variety of anesthetic complications. As clinical decisions are made by your team, the proprietary software monitoring program adjusts the physical responses and vital signs of the patient to mimic real-life clinical events. According to Jennifer Sager, BS, CVT, VTS (Anesthesia & Analgesia and ECC), Midmark Anesthesia Trainer, "Anesthesia can be scary for pet owners. As technicians and veterinarians performing anesthesia, it's important to have the highest amount of knowledge and the highest amount of skill. This simulation training helps us do that." Each clinical scenario is designed to enhance team communications and support critical thinking and sound medical responses to stressful situations, including equipment failure, hypotension, hypercapnia, and cardiac arrhythmia. After each scenario, the instructor will lead your team through a debriefing session, allowing everyone to discuss the decisions made during the simulation. This feedback is provided in a supportive and constructive manner where your team can focus on leveraging strengths, improving performance, and practicing responses to common problems encountered in anesthetic cases. Take your clinical performance to the next level "We don't want fear to discourage veterinarians from offering their clients additional procedures that require anesthesia—like dentistry," says 8 hours RACE CE (10+ hours with pre-learning courses) Learning objectives: Identify and manage anesthetic complications in your patients.
