Feel-Good Sound
Wave Snacks
Sound waves are shaking up the $605
billion global snack market. Los Angeles-
based Sound Nutrition uses high-frequency,
low-amplitude sound waves to preserve
nutrients, and develop flavor and texture in
its Sound Bites. The ultrasonic technology
gently vibrates ingredients like whole egg
crystals and cacao into a bite-size shape in
a millisecond. The process cooks and forms
food without applying heat, preserving the
nutritional integrity of the snack. Don Dillon,
Sound Nutrition CEO, says, "Ultrasonics have
long been around in other industries, but
never before used in food production." He
adds, "Because of the ultrasonics, we don't
need to use binders or fillers." At only 30g
and 140 calories per oval, many consumers
have expressed they feel quickly satisfied, but
not full, and fueled with sustained physical
energy and mental clarity. "We offer great
taste without the nutritional baggage," Dillon
says.—Denise Shoukas
