camfi lapc.com US Pharmacopeia 16 For decades, the pharmaceutical and chemical industries have manufac- tured products based on batch produc- tion, where a predetermined weight of ingredients is processed before being discharged as fi nished product. The more modern alternative is a contin- uous manufacturing process, where a continuous solid dose manufacturing system simultaneously charges ingre- dients into the system while discharg- ing fi nished product out of the system. This change in manufacturing process has been embraced by a number of major companies that consider it to be an improvement in production. Its key benefi ts compared to batch manufac- turing are the use of smaller process- ing equipment and facilities, simplifi ed processes, and superior quality con- trol. However, you can achieve these benefi ts only if your auxiliary equip- ment is able to keep up. Uninterrupted dust collection is critical in continuous manufacturing because the system may need to run 24 hours per day, 7 days per week (24/7). To en- sure that your dust collection system can meet the challenge, look for the following attributes: online fi lter clean- ing, energy effi ciency, compact design, safety features, and reliability. Dust Collection Challenges in Continuous Manufacturing Processes As product manufacturing methods change, dust collectors and other essential process equipment must evolve to meet new demands. By David Steil, Camfi l APC Economical, space-saving industrial dust collector with compact fi ltration stages for contin- uous manufacturing processes.
