After extensive experimentation, Kave devised a combination of local Brooklyn Brewery's IPA and Black Chocolate Stout as the perfect flavor profile to use in her products. Roni-Sue's portfolio includes Beer Buttercrunch, Beer & Pretzel Caramel Nuggets and BeerCorn. "We get a lot of business from customers who are looking for a guy-friendly gift," says Nicole Greene, chef-owner of Truffle Truffle. The Chicago confectioner created a dedicated Beer & Pretzel line and expanded with a beer-accented collection of truffles, caramels, brittle and marshmallows. The items are sold individually or as part of a popular sampler box. Packaging was redesigned last year in advance of Father's Day to gear it specifically toward male customers. The Beer & Pretzel line is also popular for weddings as well as corporate gifts during the holidays. "Beer and pretzels appeal to people who love beer and those who are intrigued by the novelty of the concept," Greene adds. "At first, beer-and-pretzel candies attract men, because of the classic flavor combination, but I think once women try them, they find they like it," Blumer comments.
