SiG MT 118 One such irrepressible locality is the town of Clancy, located in the Elkhorn Mountains just off of Interstate 15 south of Helena. Visitors who leave the interstate to check out this historic, once-famous silver camp will almost immediately find themselves greeted by the sprawling Legal Tender Pub & Bistro. In a nod to its forefathers, the restaurant's owners named the establishment aer the nearby Legal Tender Mine, a gold and silver mine that employed nearly everyone in the Clancy area from the 1870s through the 1920s. e ore from the mine proved to be so rich, it still need a profit even aer being hauled to Fort Benton and shipped overseas to Wales for smelting. "At the end of a long day, miners would come up from the mines and down from the hills and into the fledgling community of Clancy, where they could be sure to find good food and locally brewed beer," says Rusty James, the Legal Tender's executive chef and general manager. "We have kept that tradition alive at the Legal Tender. No one goes away hungry, and we never run out of beer." e restaurant's upscale, casual atmosphere and wildly extensive menu makes it a perfect choice for any occasion. The everyday mining-era décor and timeless log furniture blend exquisitely with the restaurant's inviting fireplaces and semi-private nooks. Flame-seared to perfection. Located at the intersection of Clancy's mining heritage and its love of great food. You won't want to skip the dessert menu!
