Since you are reading this, our first Annual Report, then surely at some point you have heard Keith Dambrot – the Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Coach of the Year – use that phrase to describe his program's potential. Tom Wistrcill Director of Athletics I'm sure Coach doesn't mind me borrowing that phrase to describe the entire Athletics Department at The University of Akron, since it's what we've been doing every day this year. The 2012-13 school year was another banner year for Zips Athletics: • Men's Basketball earned an Associated Press Top 25 ranking for the first time as a Division I program, winning both the MAC regular season and tournament in the same year • Women's Basketball captured its first MAC East Title and advanced to its first MAC Championship game during the best season in program history • Men's Soccer swept the MAC season and tournament yet again, reaching the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament • Rifle won its second consecutive Mid-Atlantic Conference small-bore championship • Men's Outdoor Track and Field took home its third straight MAC title, and fifth in the last six years We're even prouder of our performance in the classroom. The NCAA's latest Academic Progress Rate scores – measuring eligibility, retention and graduation – showed that all 19 of our programs were above the national target score, 17 finished above the national average, 10 earned perfect scores in the previous year and four teams – Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Women's Cross Country and Tennis – ranked among the top 10 percent in their sport for the most recent four-year cohort. In this report, you can relive these and many other outstanding achievements by our student-athletes and coaches. Our success would not be possible without your support. Now, we're focused on how we're going to Think Even Bigger – and Better – in 2013-14.
