Smart Phone Severe Weather App from FLASH FLASH Weather Alerts, a new smart phone app released by the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH), provides customizable and bilingual severe weather alerts along with home mitigation and family preparedness information, videos and consumer support. In English and in Spanish, the app provides local weather forecasts for seven days including hourly updates with temperature, precipitation and humidity; severe weather alerts for up to six saved locations in the United States; and location-based alerting using GPS and local cellular towers to pinpoint locations making alerts more precise and reducing false alerts. Users can choose from one to 100 alert options including hurricanes, floods and tornados to wildfire and more, according to FLASH. The app is available through the Apple AppStore and Google Play at a one-time price. FBC Approves QMI Hurricane and Security Screens The Florida Building Commission has approved StormSafe operable and fixed hurricane and security screen systems by QMI Security Solutions, Itasca, IL. Vision through the hurricane screen is virtually no different than an ordinary bug screen, the company states. "Our new screen product fills a niche to protect openings with limited architectural distraction and at a reduced cost from other hurricane protection products," said Ken Pendleton, QMI Storm Products Sales Manager. "Dealer pricing for fixed screens is very competitive, and even more so depending on project quantity," said Pendleton.
