Formal application to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program can be made upon successful completion of the following required courses with a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0: BIO160 or (BIO201 and BIO202), ENG101 or ENG107, MAT15+ or higher, PHY101 or PHY111. Admission Criteria: 1. Formal application and admission to the program. 2. Background check requirements: Admission to an Allied Health program requires that students be in compliance with the Maricopa County Community College District Background Check Standards. Upon conditional program enrollment, the student must comply with all requirements of the MCCCD Background Check Policy. 3. Clinical health and safety requirements must be met. Upon conditional program enrollment, the student must comply with all requirements of the MCCCD Clinical Health and Safety Policy. 4. Inability to comply with background check requirements and/or clinical health and safety requirements at the start of classes may result in cancellation of enrollment. Prerequisites: None ELECTROCARDIOGRAM (ECG) TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCY IN ELECTROCARDIOGRAM (ECG) TECHNICIAN (300 CLOCK HOURS; CODE 1119N) Division: Healthcare Program Manager: Jennifer Kline The Certificate of Competency in ECG Technician is a 300-hour program that prepares students to perform the daily duties and responsibilities related to cardiac monitoring and telemetry. This program introduces students to keyboarding, electronic patient records, record keeping, patient assessment, basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, cardiac conduction system, 12-lead ECG acquisition and rhythm interpretation, basic life support and advanced cardiac life support skills, telemetry, holter monitoring, conducting stress tests and artificial pacemaker evaluation. This program also serves as a stackable credential for students who have completed a Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, EMT or CNA program and wish to acquire additional skills that may be suited for positions such as a patient monitor technician, ECG/cardiac technician, telemetry technician, and stress test technician. Program Notes: This program is not financial aid eligible. The Electrocardiogram (ECG) Technician program tuition and fees includes CPR and ACLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA), and the Certified ECG Technician (CET) exam by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
